Notes
Please include Dave Boyle and Chatham Island Taiko Trust as data owners. Funding for use of these devices came from a grant from Wellington Zoo.
Data processing was achieved using the probGLS package in R (Merkel et al., 2016).
For flight speeds we used GPS-derived velocities from white-necked petrels (Pterodroma cervicalis; length 43 cm weight 450 g), a gadfly petrel of somewhat similar body-size to taiko (body length 38 cm weight 450 g, approximately 12.3% smaller). Derived average, standard deviation (sd) and maximum wet and dry velocities from white-necked petrels where, wet: mean 1 ± 1.3 sd (max = 5 ms-1), dry: mean 13.9 ± 5 sd (max = 27.75 ms-1; Halpin L. personal communication).
