Penny earned a Masters by research from the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies at University of Tasmania, where she conducted research into the ecology of a species of seabird. Specifically, investigating the habitat use, spatio-temporal overlap, niche breadth and diet of wedge-tailed shearwaters in south eastern Australia. This research forms part of a broader scale project researching seabird populations in New South Wales.
